Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to WSSU Housing! We are thrilled that you have chosen to live on campus and are excited to make your stay exceptional.
Our mission at Winston-Salem State University’s Department of Housing and Residence Life is to create a safe, inclusive, and vibrant living-learning environment. We support our Ram Residents' holistic development and success, empowering them to thrive academically, personally, and socially while taking pride in their residence hall and campus community.
Your residential experience will offer you new freedoms and personal choices. As you settle into your new home, you will have the chance to connect with fellow students, develop lifelong friendships, engage in thought-provoking discussions, and participate in various clubs, organizations, and events.
We strive to ensure every resident feels valued, respected, and supported.
As we begin our Fall 2024 academic year, we are excited to take WSSU Housing & Residence Life TO NEW HEIGHTS.
This summer, we completed extensive renovations, expanded our staff, welcomed our new chancellor, and are looking forward to launching a new residential curriculum and starting new fundraising campaigns. These enhancements are designed to elevate your living and learning experience.
Buckle up, get ready, and prepare for the amazing journey ahead. Move-In is the start of an incredible adventure at WSSU!

All residents will move in during their assigned time block between August 11-18th, 2024.
Time blocks will range between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, depending on the building/floor.

ALL STUDENT DIRECTIONS
Once you arrive on campus at your designated time, report directly to the Move-in Check-In Tent. Here, you will be verified as Ram Ready. Please follow the directions of all traffic officers.
Coming Northbound on Route 52, take exit 109B (slightly right
at the traffic light onto Research Parkway). At the T-intersection,
make a left onto MLK Jr. Dr. At the next traffic light, make a left
onto Reynolds Park Road. Take an immediate right towards
Check-In Tent. Once you reach Check-In Tent, you will receive
instructions on the next steps.

Move-In Check-In Tent
Once you arrive on campus, you will proceed to the check-in tent located in the Gleason parking lot (Lot X).
If you have met the Ram Ready requirements, you will be directed to your residence hall. If you have not met the Ram Ready requirements, you will be directed to One-Stop located inside the DJR Student Center.

One-Stop is located inside the Anderson Center.
At One-Stop, university staff will assist students in becoming Ram Ready to gain access to their residence hall. After leaving the Check-In Tent, continue through parking lot X until you reach a small rotary/ traffic circle in front of Gleason-Hairston Terrace. Continue to stay to the right, following Price Street until you reach the Anderson Center on your left. Please park in the Anderson Center parking lot.
Offices represented at One Stop include:
•Scholarship and Financial Aid
• Student Accounts and Cashiering
After completing your paperwork, please proceed to the Housing
and Residence Life table to be directed to your residence hall.

OUR APPLIANCE POLICY
You can only bring your own (individual) microwave in Gleason-Hairston Terrace and Rams Commons.
Cannot be bigger than 1.3 cubic feet and more than 1000 wats
Personal microwaves are only permitted in Atkins, Brown, Martin-Schexnider, Moore, and Wilson Halls IF they are rented or purchased as a MicroFridge from
Standards for Living.
You can bring your own mini-fridge in every hall except Covington.
*$30 registration fee IS NO LONGER REQUIRED.
Community microwaves are provided in ALL residence halls.

*In Covington Hall, each room is provided with a mini-fridge for roommates to share. Students can NOT bring or rent an additional refrigerator.

HRL ORGS
HRL ORGS
The Residence Hall Association (RHA) is a residential student-led organization serving as the overall governing body for residents at the University. RHA provides an opportunity for student involvement and leadership. The RHA Executive Board advocates for residential students and serves as a liaison between WSSU residents and the Department of Housing and Residence Life. RHA enhances the residential experience through programming that encourages student engagement and learning.
Hall Council is an essential part of the residential experience. Each residence hall has an individual Hall Council that is governed under the umbrella of the Residence Hall Association (RHA). Student leaders who fulfill the various positions on their Hall Council host programs and help foster a sense of community in their residence hall. Hall Council members work closely with Resident Advisors and are advised by the Area Coordinator or Graduate Hall Director.
NRHH is a residential student-led organization that recognizes individuals for their outstanding leadership and service within the residence hall and to promote community and leadership at WSSU. To be a member of this organization individual must serve as a leader within their residence hall, be in good standing with the university and maintain at least 3.0 grade point average.
